Polyester tablecloths are a popular way to cover your table during gatherings and other events. But no matter how careful you are, wrinkles will inevitably appear. Polyester fabric has become the standard material for tablecloths because it’s durable and stain-resistant. Unfortunately, it also tends to wrinkle easily. While some people believe that they should only wash their tablecloths once every two weeks or so, experts recommend washing them at least once per week. This helps prevent wrinkles from forming and makes the tablecloth last longer. Nevertheless, what can you do if you have a polyester tablecloth and you want to reduce the wrinkles?

How To Get Wrinkles Out Of Polyester Tablecloths

You want the tablecloths to be as smooth and crisp as possible since they are the foundation of the dining experience. Beautifully prepared table linens will enhance the beauty of cutlery, table ornaments, and dishes, After all, we eat with our eyes! In the final stages of organizing a gathering or event, finding that your tablecloths are wrinkled can be one of the more frustrating experiences. Fortunately, there are effective ways to remove wrinkle marks from polyester and other fabric to give a polished, professional look to your table linen.

Getting Started

Unfolding a new tablecloth reveals wrinkles right away. Tablecloths can still have stains and wrinkles, even after being washed and dried. You should rewash and dry polyester tablecloths before ironing them to reduce creases and wrinkles. Do not iron unless absolutely necessary. Incorrect ironing may burn, melt, damage, or shrink the fabric causing an expensive and possiblyy hazardous mess.

Wash And Dry The Tablecloth

You can wash a polyester tablecloth using cold water. You should use a mild detergent and rinse the cloth well. If you have a delicate fabric, you should use cold water and mild detergent to avoid any damage. You should not put your tablecloth in the dryer. This can cause the fabric to shrink or fade, which will make it look worn out quickly.

Put damp towels or cloths in a dryer with low heat or a press if you don’t have much time and the linens are clean. To make steam, you can even tie ice cubes in a towel. The idea is to dampen the cloth with moisture and steam.

Steam

The use of steam is a popular method for cleaning a polyester tablecloth. However, there are some things that we should keep in mind before using this method. When using steam to clean your tablecloth, it is important that you don’t use too much water as the fabric can get wet and shrink. Additionally, you should avoid using any scented detergents or fabric softeners as they can cause the cloth to become stiff and brittle.

Use An Iron

Although we said to use an iron with caution, there are some ways that you can use one by following the right technique. On An Ironing Board, iron the tablecloth on the backside. A pressing cloth or piece of plain cotton fabric, should be placed on top of the tablecloth after lightly spraying it with water.

  1. Iron out any remaining wrinkles and creases using the synthetic fiber setting.
  2. As you iron the tablecloth, continue spraying it one section at a time.
  3. In order to protect your tablecloth from damage, always place a pressing cloth or fabric between the tablecloth and the iron.

It is important to iron Iron parallel to the thread alignment. This prevents the material from stretching and creating uneven lengths. Fold the cloth loosely after ironing, then clip the top onto a clothesline or hanger and let gravity do the rest of the work!
