Haier (Unavailable)

If you’re looking for a sleek & modern wine cellar that is both affordable and very highly rated, then the Haier 12-Bottle Dual Zone is going to be an excellent choice for you.

With several different models ranging from a 6 bottle to a massive 18 bottle capacity, the Haier brand’s quality remains the same throughout.

The Haier is The Kitchen Guy’s top choice.

The Haier is loaded with features that make it unique.

The attractive finish will complement the beauty of any modern kitchen or living room. Its design has several advanced features that cause it to stand out above the rest:

  • Vibration-free; Ultra Quiet Thermal Electric Cooling. I think it is safe to say that a noisy appliance is an annoying appliance. By having sophisticated thermal cooling technology, the Haier has managed to reduce its vibration and, therefore, its sound.
  • Perfect for Red or White Wines. So this is a trend that you will see with all the best wine refrigerator systems. Many people think that Most people should appreciate red wine warm, but finding the optimal temperature will dramatically improve its taste.
  • Curved Door with Smoked Glass with Black Trim/Black Cabinet. This is mainly a cosmetic thing, but it helps set the Haier HVTEC12DABS apart from the rest of the pack. A sight to behold; photographs don’t do it justice.
  • Dual Touch Screen Controls. A fantastic feature of this cooler is that there are two independent compartments to store your wine. You could store your whites at the bottom & your reds at the top (cold air is heavier and falls). Or if you have different wines that require different temperatures, altering is a breeze. Temperature upper compartment: 46-66F (7.7C-18.8C); lower Compartment: 54-66F (12.2C-18.8C)
  • 6 Full-Width Chrome Storage Racks. This will vary with which model you decide to get, this is one of the best 12 bottle wine coolers out there, but there are Haier wine coolers with 6, 8, 16, and 18 bottle capacities.

The Haier wine 12 bottle has a clear edge over other wine refrigerators in the same price range. Having many convenient characteristics, it has many advantages that anyone interested in wine will love.

  • Very quiet. Surprisingly quiet and vibration-free. As with anything electrical, there is some sound and heat, but this will not be an issue for most of you.
  • Small footprint. With its stunning design comes a very efficient use of space. At just 20.3 x 26 x 9.9 inches (51.5 x 25.1 cm) and 31.3 pounds (14.2 kg), it can fit under your kitchen counter or sit unobtrusively in your living room (or any room for that matter; mine is in my bedroom!).
  • Super efficient to run. According to one owner, the cost to run this machine is only $1.22 per month! There are some maths behind it, which will vary depending on the type of environment and ventilation you give. However, whatever way you put it, this is a very cost-effective device.

While Haier is one of the best wine refrigerator brands on the market today, it certainly has some flaws that need to be mentioned in the interests of impartiality.

The main disadvantage reported by a few consumers was that it does not sit so well on a carpeted surface. However, most customers who bought the Haier usually place it in their kitchens and tiled floors.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for the best wine refrigerator under $500, you won’t do much better than the Haier.

The Wine Enthusiast Wine fridge is a beautiful and practical wine cellar.

When writing this wine refrigerator reviews article, I am reminded of what I looked for when investing in a one.

One of the things I wanted was a wine fridge to store under my kitchen counter. However, I have limited space. If this is the case for you, then the Wine Enthusiast 18 bottle slimline will be an excellent choice for you.

  • Advanced Thermoelectric Wine Cooler. Energy-efficient, CFC-free & ETL approved. If these acronyms don’t do anything for you, then I don’t know what will!!!
  • Two zones. The top section holds up to 12 bottles & the bottom holds 8. 7 pull-out chrome shelves—exterior digital touchscreen with temperature display.
  • Touch Screen control. With an easy access control panel, the Wine Enthusiast 18 Bottle is a fantastic under-counter beverage center. You can control two different zones for optimal storage of your wine.
  • Massive 18-bottle capacity. Hold up to 18 standard Bordeaux size bottles. You can easily remove any of the shelves if you would like to store larger bottles.
  • Huge temperature range. The Wine Enthusiast 18 Bottle gives you maximum flexibility with temperature control, ranging from 46F (7.7C)-66F (18.8C). Basically, the larger the range, the more power you have over what wines you can store in your cabinet.

The Wine Enthusiast is a small wine fridge with many excellent features and some exciting options that will help you decide on the best wine refrigerator for your needs.

  • Super slim profile. If space is a priority, then this wine cellar will be an excellent option for you. Measuring in at 20 x 9.9 x 37.5 inches (50.8 x 25.1 x 95.2 cm) can fit into most small spaces without any issue. Note that you need to keep some space around it to dissipate the small amount of heat it produces.
  • Beautiful design. The Wine Enthusiast refrigerator is one of the best wine coolers when it comes to design. Its sleek profile adds to any room, and with blue accented touchscreen lighting, it adds a sense of modernity and sophistication.
  • Massive 18 bottle capacity. If you are like me, then you will tend to make your way through several bottles of good wine on an average evening with friends! The ability to hold more than eight while still keeping a small footprint help to make this the best wine cooler for the capacity to footprint ratio.

When writing these wine refrigerator reviews, it is easy only to see the right things. While the Wine Enthusiast certainly has many great features, we should mention a few things.

Firstly, the price is quite steep and much more than the other wine fridges on this list.

However, it is still one of the best wine coolers at this price. Some have also mentioned that the metal wine racks are not so great, however.

Bottom Line

The Wine Enthusiast is a great little fridge. With a small footprint and great wine carrying capacity, you can see why it is so popular.

Sunpentown (Unavailable)

The Sunpentown WC-20TL is an exciting wine fridge and one that is unique to this list. For a start, it is the largest capacity out of all the other wine refrigerator reviews here at a massive 20 bottle capacity.

Although this is not technically an under-counter option, it is a beautiful wine fridge that will not look out of place in most kitchens or living rooms.

The Sunpentown is a nice simple to use wine cellar that looks great and just does the job you want it to do. The massive capacityof standard bottles will ensure that you never run out of perfectly chilled wine at the wrong moment (trust me, I’ve been there, and it is both annoying and embarrassing!).

  • Reflective glass door with touch-sensitive controls. Very cool looking and very sleek. The Sunpentown is a real stunner. With the touch controls built right into the front of the door, they are easy to access and look fantastic!
  • Adjustable thermostat with LED temperature display. A handy addition is a display to quickly see if your bottles are at the correct wine storage temperature.
  • Low power consumption. “Do wine refrigerators use a lot of electricity?” This question may or may not be on your list of priorities when looking for the best wine refrigerator, but it is always good to help out the environment and save a bit of money in the process.
  • Soft interior light. OK, so maybe not the best feature in the world, but you have to think about these things. If you are just going to store yours out of sight, it doesn’t matter. However, if you want to show it off (why wouldn’t you?!), or even just have it looking good in the background, the interior light will make it blend in and give it an extra air of chicness.
  • Removable wine storage racks. This means that you can fit in different sized bottles or even just arrange it how you want. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but being able to stack my wine in the way I want is one of the top 10 things I look for when I look at different wine cooler reviews.

The Sunpentown 20 bottle is a great looking and functional machine that doesn’t break the bank. The Sunpentown could be a great way to start in the beautiful world of wine coolers!

  • Compact design. Even with its large 20 bottle capacity, it still has a small footprint. It is not as big or bulky as its capacity would have you believe at just 20.2 x 15.8 x 21.6 inches (51.3 x 40.1 x 54.8 cm) and 25 pounds (11.3 kg).
  • Great price. If you are looking for an excellent looking, small-medium sized wine cellar for a reasonable cost, this is a fine option.
  • Very easy to set up. You may have heard the phrase “plug & play” when it comes to computers; well, this wine fridge falls into that category. Plug it in, turn it on, use the wine refrigerator thermostat to set the correct temperature, and off you go!

The Sunpentown is a genuinely excellent choice, but some drawbacks may make you dig a bit deeper.

There is no humidity control, but this is also the case for the other wine coolers. If your power goes off or you unplug it, the thermostat resets to 52F (11.1C), which is something to keep in mind and possibly a very annoying feature.

Bottom Line

“Should I buy a wine refrigerator?” is a question that I get asked many times by friends and some colleagues. My answer would be that it depends on what you want from your wine.

If you are not sure whether to invest in one, then the highest rated wine refrigerator at the top of this article would be the one I would suggest, to begin with.

If you already know a bit about your wines and require a large capacity but don’t want to spend crazy money, then quite simply, the Sunpentown is the wine fridge for you.

NewAir NWC023SS00 Single Zone

New Air wine refrigerator reviews…

Here we have a fascinating fridge in the form of the NewAir ANWC023SS00 Space Saver 23 Bottle. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea with its industrial looks, but it certainly is striking and comes packed with many fantastic features.

I love the look and would be very happy with purchasing this wine cellar. However, read on to find out why the NewAir is one of the best-rated wine cooler refrigerators you can currently buy.

Last update on 2021-10-20 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

Sitting pretty in its stainless steel casing and quietly but surely doing its job diligently cooling down your favorite wines, the NewAir is an excellent wine refrigerator.

Like some of the other models in this review, it can hold a decent amount of standard-sized bottles, with this model able to store 23. If you are looking for something more or less, then NewAir has other models going all the way up to 28 bottle storage.

  • Thermoelectric cooling technology. Ensures a steady temperature while remaining vibration-free and almost silent.
  • Insulated door. A fantastic feature of the NewAir is that its insulated door keeps the cold in and heat out, resulting in an efficient wine fridge. However, it also features some Ultra Violet (UV) protection to keep your wine in beautiful condition for longer.
  • Flexible Storage. You can design the interior the way you want to. You can have it standard and store 18 regular sized bottles, or you can do some rearranging and store larger and different shaped bottles like Burgundy and Mosel. You could even hold a 1500 ml magnum on the bottom to make sure you have all kinds of outstanding wine ready for any occasion!
  • Compact design. Unlike some of the others on this list, the NewAir NWC023SS00 only needs 4 inches (10.2 cm) of space to ensure proper airflow so that you could make this into a built-in wine fridge or under-counter machine.
  • Removable wine storage racks. This means that you can fit in different sized bottles or even just arrange it how you want. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but being able to stack my wine in the way I want is one of the top 10 things I look for when I look at different wine cooler reviews.

Whether you’re a new wine collector or even a connoisseur, the NewAir wine chiller is an effortless and convenient way to store some of your favorite wine.

Chill wine at a perfect temperature and keep a variety within easy reach. This one is designed for wine enthusiasts & possesses all the features to make it a great small wine fridge.

  • Easy to remove wine racks. If you have lots of different types of wine, then rearranging yous to accommodate them easily is vital.
  • Can blend in with other appliances. Some reviews have mentioned that it complements other products such as their brushed aluminum Samsung refrigerators.
  • Fast for a coolant-less thermoelectric device. It takes up to 20 minutes to reach an optimal temperature, which is relatively quick and efficient for these wine coolers.
  • Interior LED Light gently illuminates your wine collection. Shows off your wine collection with beautiful illumination. I have spoken to some people who don’t like to show off theirs, but I love having my collection on display for me. Not necessarily to show off, but to stimulate conversation and let my guests easily choose which bottle they would like.
  • It can be used as an under-counter beverage center. As a result of its dimensions, you only really need around 4 inches (10.2 cm) of clearance for airflow. You could install it as a built-in wine fridge.

Although the NewAir is an excellent choice and deserves to be in my top 5 best wine refrigerator lists, I want to mention a few drawbacks.

Some people have noticed that their wine bottles with the cork partially inserted or sealed with a vacuum cork may not fit inside correctly. However, you can easily rearrange the shelving to make a section at the bottom to keep your open wine upright.

Bottom Line

If you are a good-looking, modern thermoelectric wine fridge, then the NewAir is undoubtedly one of the best wine refrigerators you can buy. If you are also looking for a reasonably priced product you can use as an under-counter wine fridge, this one is a great choice.

Is it the best wine cooler you can buy? It is not the best, but I am comfortable saying that it is one of the best wine coolers on the market at this price point.

Avanti (Unavailable)

The Avanti is currently the best option that I would happily recommend you purchase.

Read on to find out just why the Avanti is so good and why I am pleased to recommend it.

Currently one of the best wine refrigerators on the market right now, the Avanti is undoubtedly one of the most searched for, and you one cooler.

Streamlined and fashionable, this is a single zone, countertop wine chiller that allows vertical storage of up to 4 open or closed wine bottles and side to side storage of up to 8 sealed wine bottles.

An innovative thermoelectric mechanism provides vibration-free, ultra-quiet cooling that won’t disturb the wine sediment, vital to maintaining ideal wine conditions.

  • Double-pane, insulated glass door. This improves the efficiency of the Avanti and helps to keep the temperature at a steady level.
  • Full-width chrome wine racks. Easy to rearrange and stylish to look at.
  • Classic black cabinet. With great looks and an incredibly premium finish, the Avanti is the best wine refrigerator for almost any space.
  • Innovative design. The Avanti 12 bottle has a curved, insulated glass door and an innovative design, which means that you can store open bottles of wine and closed ones in an upright and horizontal position.

The Avanti is a sleek & sophisticated small wine fridge with an innovative design that will make it stand out from the crowd. It is one of the best wine refrigerators you can get and has plenty of great reviews that prove this point.

  • Great value. The Avanti is excellent value for money, making a contestant for the best wine refrigerator an even better prospect.
  • Unique 4 bottle stand up area. This is one exciting aspect of the Avanti cooler. The fact that you can store up to 4 bottles upright with any issues means that you can just get it turned on and ready to go without much fuss.
  • Very classy & good looking. The Avanti’s curved glass door and premium finish easily make it one of the best-looking wine coolers out today.
  • Countertop option. You can put your Avanti almost anywhere (as long as you keep in mind their air ventilation requirements). Many people ask me what the best eight bottle countertop is, and I can say that the Avanti is easily the best in its class and price range.

However, some reviewers have noticed some issues with it, including that it can sometimes not keep its temperature when in locations of great heat. However, this is mainly due to its thermoelectric cooling instead of conventional cooling methods.

This should not put you off, though, because it is still an excellent countertop one that is well worth its small investment.

Bottom Line

Is the Avanti is the best wine refrigerator on this list? I would probably say no. I think that the Haier takes that honor.

However, for the price, design, and quality of the Avanti small wine fridge, it is well worth checking it out and seeing if it is the right fit for you.

The bottom line of the bottom line…It is a great option that will do the job you want it to do…cooling wine without breaking the bank!

What To Look For In A Good Wine Refrigerator

Before deciding which one to buy, it is always a good idea to research various features and styles to help come to a better decision before purchasing.

Many small wine fridges come with thermoelectric systems that keep your wine cool without using chemical coolants. There are also different capacities available; usually, from 4 bottle wine coolers up to…well, the sky’s the limit really, it just depends on your budget and space!

Wine Refrigerator Buyers Guide

What Is A Wine Refrigerator?

Serious and casual wine hobbyists use wine refrigerators, collectors & drinkers alike to preserve their wine quality.

They can be small countertop models or large units, and there are various varieties available to fit any wine collector’s requirements.

Today’s wine refrigerators generally have glass front doors with soft interior lights to view your collection, thermostat controls, and some even have locks to stop people from dipping into your expensive collection.

With the sleek looks some of the modern wine coolers have; they will look great in any room you can think of (I have one in my bedroom!), and have become more prevalent in recent times as a lot more people are thinking about collecting different wines from all over the world.

How To Store Wine

For a wine to stay preserved for a decent amount of time, i.e., until you want to drink it, and still maintain its delicious taste, it needs to be kept at any temperature of around 50-57 degrees, whether it’s red or white wine.

All of the wine refrigerators in this postcan keep your wine at this temperature.

What Are Your Wine Storage Needs?

One of the best ways to get the best wine refrigerator is to know precisely what you want when it comes to preserving your wine and what requirements you have.

You should thoroughly research to find the best wine refrigerator and ask yourself specific questions such as those below before deciding to choose one.

The Kitchen Guy will give you some of these questions to help you narrow down your choices and make it much better to get the optimal one that will fit all of your needs.

How many Bottles of wine Will You Store?

OK, so you can never really know the exact amount of bottles you will need, but you should try to settle on a ballpark figure.

The best way to approach this question is to add in some redundancy. You should consider the number of bottles you intend to store in your fridge and then add on the number of bottles you drink a week.

For example, if you think you’ll need to store four bottles of wine but know already that you drink an average of 4 bottles a week, you should look for an eight bottle wine fridge that can accommodate this amount. This may sound excessive, but I promise you that you will find that you end up buying more wine once you have purchased your own!

Look at the capacity potential.

Capacity is measured by way of standard-sized bottles of wine. There are many different sizes of bottles, so if you’re purchasing larger bottles, it will automatically reduce the number of bottles you’ll be capable of in the store.

All of the units in this post include slide-out wine storage racks, which means that you will be able to hold some unconventionally shaped bottles as well.

What is the Temperature of the Room the Wine Fridge will likely be in?

Since wine refrigerators usually are kept indoors, they will generally perform very well when maintaining the desired temperature to preserve your wine.

Putting yours in the garage or a hot room may result in the cooling system burning out in addition to spoiling your wine too. If you reside in extremely sizzling climates and you think your room will go over 75F, then you may want to consider a vapor compression system.

However, for most people, a thermoelectric wine cooler will be the best option as it reduces vibration, noise, and power usage.

Measure the location you want it to go.

When you can, find the spot you intend to put a wine fridge and measure it before deciding to buy one. You should also make sure to measure doorways, so you know it will fit through! I was always taught to measure twice and cut once. That was for woodwork, but it kind of rings real for most things.

Ensure the Floor is strong enough

Most flooring will support a fully stocked wine fridge, but it is never a bad idea to be sure, seeing as they can weigh a fair amount when fully stocked.

What is your budget?

Wine refrigerators appear in all sizes, models, and prices. Knowing what budget you would prefer to stay within helps keep you from considering models that are out of your range. When you know what budget you are working with, you can determine the most important features to you.

What features and options are you looking for?

Slide-out metal wine racks are among the many features that you possibly can elect to have with your wine refrigerator.

Others range from single to dual to even triple temperature zones, security locks, digital temperature control systems, recessed handles, LED lighting for looks in addition to function, compressor enhancements, insulated glass doors, smoked glass doors, mirrored doors, and much more.

Depending on what budget you are working with, you will get a tasteful, fancy wine fridge right down to a simple, functional unit with no frills.

How is it powered?

There are two necessary forms of cooling that wines refrigerators have:

  • Vapor compression systems
  • Thermoelectric systems

Compressor Based Wine Chillers

Compressor wine refrigerators utilize the same necessary technology that regular refrigerators use to cool the device.

This is a much better choice for storing extensive wine collections because compressors are much better at handling changing temperatures that rooms typically move through.

These external temperatures in the room affect the cooler’s climate. A compressor is more competent at keeping the wine refrigerator’s internal temperatures in a stable condition.

Thermoelectric Wine Coolers

These kinds of wine refrigerators are far more efficient when it comes to power usage and less electricity.

They are also much quieter and have less vibration than Vapor compression wine fridges.

They work by producing an electrical current that travels through a ceramic tile. The inside the tile cools, and then the outside of the tile dissipates the heat away from the cooler. Many of the best small wine refrigerators use this system to keep them running smoothly.

Thermoelectric wine refrigerators are usually the best option for us with smaller wine collections because of the substantial benefits.

This entire article is based on thermoelectric wine coolers.

To sum up everything here about the Best Wine Refrigerator under $500…in my opinion, once you have checked everything and are sure you know what to look for, you can’t beat the Wine Enthusiast.
